'ZOMBIELAND' (R) 3 1/2 Stars
Writer: Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Starring: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Bill Murray
Zombies are kind of stupid. I don't know how they kill so many people when you could pretty much out run or out smart them. The main characters in "Zombieland" know this as they battle the ugly Zombies and they are quite interesting characters. "Zombieland" is a real treat and a lot of fun with a kick ass sense of humor. I expected this to be dumb fun but the screenplay has some great and clever lines of dialogue. It also has an attractive cast who do excellent work in this movie. I think Woody Harrelson is under appreciated in the acting World. His portrayal of Woody Boyd in "Cheers" is the stuff of legend. He does an excellent job being cool at playing dumb. Harrelson can do drama, comedy and he is always effective. Jesse Eisenberg is very good at the role he has done mostly lately and that is the smart ass observer of life. Now with "Adventureland" (possibly my favorite movie of 2009) he is cornering the coming of age film market and can give Micheal Cera a run for his money. His interaction with Harrelson is priceless and they work well together. Then you have the women and again Emma Stone is a real find with this and "Superbad". She is quite an appealing actress and she is very sexy and funny here. She is a Lindsay Lohan type but ten times more talented. Also Abigail Breslin is proving she could become a major force as an actress soon. There are big laughs including a priceless turn by Bill Murray which is the best comedy work he has done in a decade. There is also a wonderfully executed climax in an amusement park that is a fun house of horrors. This movie grew on me quick! It has great dialogue, appealing people, gore, action and a hipster quotient that is missing in most comedies now. This is one of the funniest films and one of the best action movies of the year.
