'She's Out Of My League'

'She's Out Of My League' (R) **1/2

Writers: Sean Anders and John Morris
Director: Jim Field Smith
Starring: Jay Baruchel, Alice Eve, T.J. Miller, Mike Vogel, Lindsey Sloane

"She's Out Of My League" is a very sweet movie that has a nice love story but still has identity problems. The movie wants to also be a vulgar classic like "Wedding Crashers" and "Knocked Up" but it isn't hilarious enough. Moviegoers looking for outrageous and side splitting comedy will be disappointed. "Knocked Up" actually did this thing much more effectively. There are some laughs but they are more character based and situation based. Most of the laughs are provided by T.J. Miller in the Jim Belushi, Jack Black buddy role. Jay Baruchel who was very good in "Knocked Up" and "Million Dollar Baby" is very effective here and you like him a lot. Alice Eve is a very attractive Australian actress who is charming here and the chemistry with her and Baruchel is not bad. Eve gave a brave performance in the recent ensemble movie "Crossing Over" where she was naked through most of the movie but in an inferior movie. I am glad she didn't have to repeat that here where she comes off just as effective. I like this movie's message and the lead characters but you probably won't remember this movie a week from now. Also the advertisements for this movie are very misleading.
